A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME
I will never forget my first family dog when I was little. In fact, the earliest childhood memory I can recall is spending time playing with my dog in the yard. My grandparents and parents bred australian cattle dogs (blue heeler) for herding cattle on our family farm. Our family dog spent the greater part of the day with me and followed me everywhere. Knowing how wreckless I was she was probably herding me to safety endlessly! When litters of puppies were born I would often argue and sneak out to sleep next to them in the barn. I grew up knowing I had the passion to be a dog breeder. After learning about my dog allergy development later in life I had to decide on a new breed to love. That is when I discovered the Standard Poodle. One of the most versatile breeds and hypoallergenic to boot! I purchased my first standard poodle in 2016 to start my breeding program in addition to being my daughter's first dog! A recent vision for the future has now altered my path to adding miniature poodles to my program. And after all the years of waiting and hard work to get where we are, we introduce the Authentic Poodle Co!
What We Do
Authentic Poodle Co is a family (mother/daughter) owned kennel. We carefully choose dogs with good bloodlines and great temperaments. Every puppy goes through a temperament test to determine that their personality fits well into their future homes and lifestyles. We also raise our puppies with stimulation and training programs that encourages adjustment, learning, and communication skills.
Why We Do It
Jenna has been working with breeding quality dogs since childhood. With the founding of Authentic Poodle Co in 2016 we have a focus on making the transition from our loving home to yours as easy as possible. We strive to breed the best animals we can, educate their new owners and ensure these precious creatures get the love, care and attention they deserve. "As a former dog groomer, I was looking for a standard poodle to have as a companion, a hunting dog, and a creative outlet (because let's be honest, poodles are beautiful). We found Jenna through my mom who knew her from work and I was able to have first pick of the litter! We brought Freyja home and discovered that she's not only wild, but cuddly as well. Sometimes she gives me this side eye sassy look that I can't help but laugh at. She loves to play and she'll play fetch all day long. She's easy to train, but a motorcycle scared her as a puppy so we unfortunately can't hunt with her. Jenna did a wonderful job breeding her and I'm glad she's in my back pocket for future Haugen family poodles!"
Fergus
"Since Fergus and I met we’ve been inseparable. I’ve never been able to describe a dog as dorky, but that is just the word I would use to describe him. He loves hugs and being around people, he’s comforting and so very intelligent. When I was in high-school I would have half days of school where I would be at classes during the mornings, and then work afternoon shifts as a CNA in a nearby nursing home. In between that, I would have an hour of space where I could go home and relax before work. As soon as I would reach my house, Fergus would follow me around the house until I was able to sit down so that way he could lay down next to me and lay his head on my lap. When I would job-shadow at a nearby hospital, I would be able to bring him in. It was the most hilarious thing being able to bring him into an ICU unit and walk around with all these doctors and students and Fergus would be entirely content with listening to the report for the day. I’m in college now, and with all the stress of school, it’s the best feeling having the ability to come home and see him. He doesn’t leave my side even after not seeing each other for months on end. You can often see us driving around running errands for my mom! He’s genuinely the best, most comforting dog I’ve ever had."
